Guide and Facilitator at Orenda

MacKenzie Parent is a dedicated educator at Orenda, responsible for leading the Kids Program for 5-7-year-olds. Her role involves creating a nurturing and engaging environment where young children can learn, grow, and thrive. MacKenzie holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and has extensive experience teaching in both schools and daycares. She has also taught primary school in London, UK. Currently, MacKenzie is pursuing a Master of Education in Research: Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Calgary, focusing on Design in Education. She also holds a Brain Story certification, which enhances her expertise in child development.

At Orenda, MacKenzie has successfully completed teacher training, significantly contributing to our educational programs. Outside of Orenda, she has secured a contract to teach Grade 4 next year, gained admission to graduate school, and enjoys traveling.

MacKenzie excels in creating a space for youth to be their authentic selves, guiding them to become their best selves. She focuses on building meaningful connections and relationships, teaching valuable skills that children can apply in their daily lives to stand strong, confident, and empowered.

MacKenzie is a member of the Alberta Teachers Association, staying connected with her professional community. Outside of Orenda, she loves reading, baking and cooking, tending to plants, camping, and spending time outdoors. She is passionate about creating, being active, and enjoying nature. At Orenda, MacKenzie is known for being friendly, genuine, honest, energetic, and determined.

She believes in the lost art of community and the importance of forming genuine connections. MacKenzie advocates for the saying "it takes a village" and strives to create spaces where authentic relationships can flourish, helping individuals grow and navigate life together. Her long-term career goals include continuing her work in education and mental wellness, contributing to her community in meaningful ways, and pursuing lifelong learning to foster positive growth and personal development. MacKenzie envisions a future where personal and collective transformation, youth and family development, and community-building are paramount. She aims to guide young children in understanding and managing their emotions, feeling confident and strong in their bodies, and finding their place in the world.

  • What’s a current personal goal or project?

    A current personal goal I am working on is completing a graduate certificate on design in education.

  • What’s your favourite season and why?

    Spring, because I love the new beginnings of everything and the growth of all the green around, the days start getting longer, the rain/thunderstorms, camping and the coming warmth.

  • What skill or hobby are you currently trying to improve or learn?

    Knitting, I started knitting a few months ago and am currently learning!

  • Describe a small, everyday moment that brings you joy?

    My morning coffee, I always make sure I have time for a cup just sitting in my kitchen or on the patio and taking in all the day will bring.
