Nick Motycka

Orenda Sylvan Lake, Founder

Nick Motycka is a mentor and teacher at Orenda, bringing a unique blend of lived experience and healing expertise to his work. For 23 years, Nick served in various law enforcement positions, including roles with Canada Customs, the RCMP, and the Calgary Police Service. His time on the front lines, in specialized units like the Crime Reduction and Drug Units, and his work in Gang Suppression left a deep impact on him.

In 2020, Nick faced what he calls a breakthrough, being diagnosed with PTSD and embarking on a transformative journey of healing. Through dedicated work, Nick moved from severe PTSD to no longer meeting the criteria for any diagnosis.

This journey shifted Nick’s life purpose. With clarity and the support of his family, he left law enforcement and stepped into a new role of service—guiding others through their own healing journeys.

Now, as a certified 9D Breathwork facilitator and a practitioner of Sacred Alchemy under the guidance of an Algonquin Medicine Man, Nick is committed to sharing the tools and wisdom he’s gained to help others transform their lives. His experience with complex trauma healing and personal growth positions him to support those navigating similar paths.

Nick is deeply passionate about breaking the cycles of ancestral trauma, which he considers one of his greatest achievements. At Orenda, his law enforcement background and healing tools empower him to guide others in transforming their lives and, ultimately, the world. Described by the community as compassionate, grounded, and an inspiring leader, Nick embodies the principle of “If nothing changes, nothing changes,” encouraging others to take action toward their own healing.

Outside of Orenda, Nick’s passions include spending time in nature, skiing, riding motorcycles, and exploring the mysteries of life and the universe. His mission is to create safe and welcoming spaces where others can embark on their own journeys of self-discovery. Nick dreams of speaking on global stages, sharing his message, and being part of the collective effort to raise consciousness worldwide.

Nick sees the future of transformation as a community-driven effort, where the "it takes a village" mentality becomes widespread once again. He envisions people living in deeper connection with one another, and he hopes to take on the role of elder, mentor, and changemaker within his community and beyond. He firmly believes that healing doesn’t always have to be so serious—it can be an awe-inspiring process filled with joy and wonder.
